Shanghai, The Pearl of the Orient – The Whore of the Pacific, what ever you might have heard, it is a city on the move. As the most populous city in China, it is also the financial and commercial heart of the country and home to more foreigners than any other city in the world. Shanghai not only has the hustle and bustle of a typical city with commuters and visitors constantly on the move, the culture is moving as well.
Moving City was captured digitally with a Canon 5D Mark II camera, an EF28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens fitted with a Neutral Density filter. These images were all taken using a tripod and an exposure between 0.5 – 1.6 seconds in length. The capture of a stationary object or person offsets the motion blur captured in these images; a person – real or pictured – or a central object is at rest, counteracting the visual tensions created by the movement in the scene.
